Our purpose
Otherlands makes long-form documentary films, photography, and writing — sustained, observational work that follows people whose lives are shaped by particular landscapes, languages, and ways of living. The association is based in Graubünden, and works without commercial backing.
Our current project is Grischun, a series of films, photographs, music, and writing made in the Engadin valleys of south-east Switzerland. Roger Rominger is filmed across multiple seasons in Val Fex. Adriano Coretti is followed through the rhythms of logging, farming, and inheritance in Sils Maria. This kind of sustained, unhurried attention is what the work requires — and what makes it possible at all.

Local Engagement
The work is made from within the valley, not about it from a distance. We collaborate with locally rooted artists and organisations throughout.
Why it matters
The people and places Otherlands works with rarely appear in contemporary media on their own terms.
The Grischun series follows Romansh-speaking communities in Graubünden — a language spoken by fewer than 60,000 people, within farming and craft traditions practiced by fewer still. This is not a project about decline. Roger and Adriano are not relics. It is about people living fully within a world that rarely looks their way, given space to be seen without interpretation.
That principle — sustained attention, without agenda — is what guides everything Otherlands makes.
